Let the Countdown Begin!!

Hey everyone! This is my very first post on this site, and I am sooooo excited! I have been toying with the idea of getting braces for a few years now, but kept putting it off. Well, I finally got serious about it and decided to tweak my smile some. That's right...I'm getting braces. Damon braces to be exact...lol. I will be getting the top row installed on 2/8/11, which is about 6 days away. Whoooo hoooo! I'm getting clear on top, and metal on the bottom.

I have heard many horror stories of people feeling unattractive and having a hard life due to their imperfect teeth. Well, my life has been the opposite way.I've had a pretty amazing life thus far with my gappy smile, and I don't feel like it has crippled me in any way! I'm still considered to be an attractive woman. I actually think having a perfect smile doesn't make one attractive. If a person is good looking, their smile won't change that.

So you guys might wonder why the heck I'm getting braces if I am so darn happy with my smile...right?? I would like to get rid of my openbite and extra gaps. I would like my gap between my two front teeth to be a little smaller WITHOUT completely getting rid of it. However, if you want to get technical, here is what the orthodontist wrote down on my treatment plan.
  • Large anterior openbite(dental and skeletal)
  • Spacing between upper incisors
  • Thick maxillary frenum attachment
  • Class I. malocclusion

The overbite and gaps have created a small lisp in my speech over the years. It's not bad, and some people actually love it. Still, I would like to decrease it just a bit if possible. Especially since my career revolves around me talking...lol. My gap is a part of who I am though, so I would never want to close it 100 percent. Nope...isn't going to happen haha. It's what physically sets me apart from every other woman out there. It's bold, unexpected, and even seen as a sign of power and good luck. But most importantly...it's a part of me. It would be interesting to see if my views on this change throughout my treatment. My ortho says I can decide for sure later on. So if I change my mind, he will be able to close my main gap in between my two front teeth. However, I don't see my views changing on the matter...lol. I will post detailed pics of my current smile in another post though.
